Masahiro Miura- Senior Advisor

He received his Ph.D. in Engineering from Osaka University. Since 1984, he has steadily advanced at Osaka University, being promoted from an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Engineering to an Associate Professor in 1994 and eventually becoming a Professor by 2005. Since April 2021, he has held the position of a Specially Appointed Professor at the Innovative Catalysis Science Division, Osaka University, in the Institute for Open Transdisciplinary Research Initiatives. With roles such as a doctoral research fellowship at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (1990-1991) and directorship at the Chemical Society of Japan (2013-2014), he has received numerous accolades, including the Thomson Reuters Research Front Award (2012), The Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work (2013), Green Sustainable Chemistry Award of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (2014), Humboldt Research Award (2015), The Japan Petroleum Institute Award (2016) and The Chemical Society of Japan Award (2019). His expertise in organic synthetic chemistry aligns with his current role as the Senior Advisor in the Office of Management and Planning since April 2021.

In 1994, he joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; METI). He has held various roles, including postings at the Mission of Japan to the European Union, JETRO Headquarters, the Reconstruction Agency, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the Asian Development Bank. In 2017, he became the Director of the Technical Cooperation Division, METI, and proceeded to become the Director of the Atomic Disaster Victim Support Team at the Cabinet Office in 2018. In 2021, he assumed the position of Director and Head of the Planning Headquarters at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. He joined the Co-Creation Bureau at Osaka University as the Assistant Director in April 2023 while concurrently serving as the Head of the Osaka University 2025 Japan International Exposition Promotion Office, Deputy Head of the Social Collaboration Office in the Graduate School of Engineering, and Senior Advisor in the Office of Management and Planning, Osaka University.
