Riko Nishimura- Director
He graduated from the School of Dentistry, the University of Osaka in 1985 and obtained his license to practice dentistry. He received his Ph.D. in Dental Science from the Graduate School of Dentistry, the University of Osaka in 1990. After serving as an Instructor at New York University and as a Faculty Associate at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, he returned to the University of Osaka, where he was appointed Assistant Professor at the School of Dentistry in 1997, Associate Professor in 1998, and Professor at the Graduate School of Dentistry in 2012. Throughout his career, he has held several academic and administrative leadership positions, including Vice Executive Director, Senior Advisor to the President, and Dean of the School of Dentistry and the Graduate School of Dentistry at the University of Osaka. He also served as a Member of the Science Council of Japan during its 24th and 25th terms, and as a Program Officer (PO) at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). In 2025, he was appointed Professor Emeritus and Specially Appointed Professor at the University of Osaka. In 2026, he assumed the role of Special Senior Advisor to the President, and in October 2026, he was appointed Director of the Office of Management and Planning. His honors include the Academic Award of the Japanese Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the Lion Award of the Japanese Association for Oral Biology, and the Young Investigator Award of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
