He graduated from the Department of Agricultural Chemistry at Kyoto University and received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), awarded through the dissertation-only route, from the Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University. He joined Takeda Pharmaceutical Company in 1992 and worked at the Pharmaceutical Research Laboratories, followed by the Discovery Research Laboratories, where he led novel drug discovery programs as an Associate Director in the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Research Unit. In 2014, he moved to the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor and later a Lecturer in an endowed chair, engaging in education and research. After serving as a Senior Fellow at the Tokyo Drug Discovery Research Laboratory of Kowa Company, Ltd., he assumed his current position on November 1, 2025.
